Cameroon is hosting from April 18 to 27, 2018 an audit of its aviation security system under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Universal Safety Audit Program (USAP) beginning April 18 to 27, 2018.

The USAP Program aims to promote aviation safety globally by conducting regular audits of all ICAO Member States to determine the status of implementation of the eight critical elements of aviation safety and aviation security oversight system with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) for safety. The eight critical elements being audited are:

· Aviation security legislation;

· Aviation security programs and regulations;

· National Competent Authority for Aviation Security and its responsibilities;

· Qualifications and training of staff;

· Provision of technical guidance, tools and information critical to safety;

· The requirements for issuing certifications and approvals;

· Quality control obligations; and

· Solving security problems.

Thus, the USAP audit, which began on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 with an opening meeting chaired by Mrs. Paule Assoumou Koki, Director General of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, is a systematic and objective review of the aviation security system of Cameroon to verify compliance with standards of Annex 17.

This mission assesses in particular the actual implementation status of the corrective measures proposed by Cameroon for the resolution of deficiencies identified during the previous USAP audit which took place from August 31 to September 09, 2015.

During this audit, ICAO experts will visit the international airports of Yaounde-Nsimalen and Douala to check the implementation of SARPs in the field.
