The traffic of Passengers recorded a tremendous increase between 2015 and 2016. The total number of passengers transported by air in Cameroon rose from 1 275 040 in 2015 to 1 326 800 in 2016.

For regular commercial flights, departing passenger number witnessed an annual growth of 26%, increasing from 635 559 passengers at departure of flights in 2015 to 801 402 in 2016, for both paying and non paying passengers. At the regional and international networks (beyond borders), passenger traffic grew from 1 023 800 in 2015 to 1 153 702 international passengers in 2016.  This progress indicates an annual growth rate of about 13% increase in passengers transported for all segments of international flights.

In the same light the traffic of cargo and mail transported via air to and from Cameroon recorded an exponential growth rate of 76%, rising from about 15 000 tons of freight carried in 2015 to 25 505 tons in 2016. It goes without saying that most of the air traffic in Cameroon is manifested at the Douala international airport which continues to grow as a major hub in the central African sub region. As in the previous years, this airport recorded about 53% of international passenger flows to/from Cameroon.

On the other hand the Yaounde-Nsimalen international airport (NSI) recorded tremendous growth in terms of aircraft movements (33%), passenger flows (64%) and freight transported (14%) respectively, compared to the previous year 2015. The deviation of activities from the Douala international airport (DLA) for reasons above, the launching of regular flights to this airport by Ethiopian Airways and the organization of the crowd pulling Women African Nations’ Cup in Cameroon accounted for this positive trend.

For domestic traffic share, NSI tops the chart, covering 37% of national passenger flows, while DLA seconds with 25%, Maroua 22% and Garoua 16%, traffic at Bafoussam airport is gradually picking up.
