Finalization of SAR agreements between Cameroon and some countries in the sub-region

As part of the implementation of the principles and provisions of the convention International Civil Aviation Convention signed in Chicago on December 7, 1944, and its 12th annex on Search and Rescue (SAR) of aircrafts in distress, which prescribes cooperation between states parties, on the one hand, and in view of consolidate their cooperation relations and establishing mutual assistance in search and rescue on the other hand, Cameroon and some countries in the sub-region have engaged in negotiations on cooperation agreements in the SAR area since 2016.

The purpose of these agreements is to define the modalities of cooperation between rescue coordination centres and/or rescue sub-centres in different countries and to set conditions for the provision, deployment reciprocal use and coordination, in times of peace, of means for the search and rescue of aircrafts in distress in the territories of the different States.

Among other things, they will make it easier for response teams to cross the borders by minimizing the formalities required, regardless of where SAR events occur.

It’s in view to finalizing negotiations of these Agreements, that Cameroonian delegations visited Brazzaville, N'Djamena, Libreville and Malabo respectively on July 01, 03, 05, and 08, 2019. These delegations were led by H.E. Mr. KOMIDOR NJIMOLUH, H.E. M. SANI TANIMOU Mohaman, H.E. Ms. ONDOUA ATEBA Edith Félicie Noelle and H.E. Mr. MPOUEL BALLA Lazare, respectively Ambassadors of the Republic of Cameroon to the Republic of Congo, Republic of Chad, the Gabonese Republic and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. The Ambassadors were assisted by Mrs. ASSOUMOU KOKI Paule, Director General of the CCAA, and Deputy Heads of Delegation.

At the end of the finalization meetings, the Agreements were initialled by the Heads of Delegations of the various parties

The initialled agreements will subsequently be submitted for the signature of the Ministers in charge of civil aviation or foreign affairs of the different countries during the next session of the ICAO Assembly.
