International Civil Aviation Day

It was established in 1994, as part of the activities carried out during ICAO's 50th anniversary and, in 1996, following this initiative, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 7 December as International Civil Aviation Day of the United Nations system.

The purpose of the Day is to raise global awareness of the importance of international civil aviation for the socio-economic development of countries. It also aims to raise awareness of ICAO's unique role in supporting the cooperation and assistance of States in building a rapid and truly global transport network for the benefit of all humanity.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is an international organization under the United Nations. Its role is to participate in the development of policies and standards that enable the standardisation of international aviation transport.
The theme chosen for this celebration, until 2023, is "Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development”. Indeed, every five years, on the occasion of ICAO's anniversaries, the ICAO Council sets a special theme for this Day. For ICAO's 75th Anniversary, the Council has organized the 2019 festivities under the theme "75 years connecting the world".

As the United Nations and the nations of the world ushered in a new era of global sustainable development, aviation, as the engine of global connectivity, serves more than ever the objectives of the Chicago Convention, which make international flight a fundamental catalyst for global peace and prosperity.
In Cameroon, the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, the secular arm of the state, oversees the safety and security of civil aviation under the technical supervision of the Ministry of Transport and under the financial supervision of the Ministry of Finance. The CCAA therefore ensures the permanent application of the recommendations, policies and standards developed by ICAO, which enable the standardisation of international aviation transport. And the CCAA respects all the protocols enacted like the other signatory countries of the Chicago Convention.

It should be noted that compliance with the regulations produced by the ICAO has since made it possible to implement air transport, both for people and goods, at the global level.
It is in this trend that Cameroon has undertaken various actions to bring its airports up to standard. An argument to attract new airlines and regain the confidence of the entire industry.
