The Director General Mrs. Paule AVOMO ASSOUMOU KOKI shared the experience of the Cameroonian Civil Aviation from 8 to 10 August 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa during this high profile meeting.

At the invitation of the Secretary General of ICAO, the Director General of the CCAA presented to hundreds of participants from the 192 ICAO Member States on the topic Enablers and barriers in the workplace. It was a question of presenting the Cameroonian model which has rendered accessible the dream of the girl child in Cameroon to integrate the typically STEM field of Civil Aviation. She also revealed the extent to which statistics illustrate a higher number of female job applicants at the CCAA today, a phenomenon which may be a consequence of her appointment as Director General. Currently, 30% of women hold positions of responsibility, representing an increase of 5%. In her presentation, she also spoke about maternity and other elements that often hamper the full development of women in the workplace. She went on to propose a way forward, for the progress for women in the workplace- the establishment of a specific regulation for women, the development of tailored training programs, career protection etc are just a few of her suggestions.

Ms. FANG LIU, Secretary General of ICAO also shared her experience, which consists of creating follow-up committees, conducting pilot projects and creating partnerships between the aviation industry and the education sector at the ICAO to promote women in the workplace.

Organized by ICAO in collaboration with UNESCO and SACAA this summit aimed at formulating sound strategies and defining a roadmap to advocate for and promote gender equality in the global aviation sector. It was an advocacy for women's opportunities and participation in the aviation industry.

The event also mobilized the air transport community by identifying concrete actions to accelerate gender equality in this highly specialized sector.

The Director General of the CCAA took part Thursday, August 9, 2018 in the gala dinner celebrating Women's Day in South Africa and the centenary of Nontsikelelo Albertina Sisulu, South African anti-apartheid activist.

It should be recalled that the just ended World Summit on gender in Aviation is part of ICAO Resolution A39-30 on the Gender Equality Program, which promotes greater participation of women in the aviation sector whilst maintaining a strong commitment to the goal of 50/50 representability for both sexes.
