Bilateral cooperation: Cameroon and Egypt agree on the liberalization of the air transport market in both countries.

The Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) hosted March 4 -5, 2019 the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) in the negotiations for the renewal of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement to allow free trade between the two States.

There was talk of revising the Air Agreement between Cameroon and Egypt in accordance with the Yamoussoukro Decision of November 14, 1999, approved by the Assembly of Heads of State of the African Union (AU) Governments in July 2000. The said decision concerns the liberalization of access to the African air transport market. For two days, the CCAA, alongside its different partners and the Ministry of Transport worked to update the Bilateral Agreement which allows free access to the market, and the 5th freedom traffic rights as far as scheduled air services between the two countries is concerned. This cooperation gives access to a direct line flights between Cameroon (Douala / Yaoundé) and Cairo in Egypt.

The business exchange held at the headquarters of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority wound up in a consensus on the implementation of measures related with the exploitation capacity, tariffs and deadlines. Designated airlines of both parties are henceforth allowed to operate unlimited frequencies for passenger and / or cargo flights without restriction of type or aircraft capacity.

The Republic of Cameroon and the Arab Republic of Egypt are connected by bilateral Air Services Agreement of March 10, 1999, ratified by Cameroon on 10 August 1999.

Since the said agreement is currently not operated by the air carriers of both parties, and in view of developments in the air transport sector and the desire of Egypt to operate this route, it was necessary to update it.
