Air transport: Bali capital of air services negotiations

A delegation of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) led by its Director General, Mr. TANKAM Pierre, was present on behalf of Cameroon, at the Seventh ICAO Conference on Air Services Negotiations (ICAN2014) From November17th to 22nd, 2014 in Bali, Indonesia.

Organised jointly by the Government of Indonesia and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), 78 States and one regional institution have fully benefited from the unique and cost-effective mechanism of ICAN's multiple negotiations to promote the liberalization of air transport and access to the market.

The mission of Cameroon through its delegation was to negotiate, revise and induct new air agreements with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Kuwait, Egypt, the Netherlands, The United Arab Emirates and Côte d'Ivoire.

ICAN / 14 was a productive conference for Cameroon in the light of the results of the bilateral negotiations. This meeting made it possible to establish links and strengthen aeronautical cooperation with the aforementioned States. The legal frameworks for air services, whose operation will offer opportunities for increasing air traffic to / from Cameroon and will certainly contribute to improving the image of our country.

The World Tourism Organisation (WTO) was invited to this meeting for the second time in order to highlight both close links between air transport and tourism and ensure continuous collaboration between these two sectors.

As a reminder, nearly 440 negotiators took part in 550 meetings during this five-day marathon, which resulted in the signing or adoption of 530 agreements and arrangements on air services. Since the first ICAN in 2008, six more have been organised successively in various regions of the world to promote the liberalisation of International Air Transport in the interest of industry and travellers. ICAN 2014 was all the more memorable because it was open to government and industry participation.
