Towards operational excellence: the CCAA organizes a mock audit to consolidate its Quality System

Under the leadership of its Director General, Mrs. Paule Avomo Assoumou spouse KOKI, the company SGS conducted a comprehensive mock audit of its Quality Management System (QMS) from June 16 to July 2, 2025,  at its headquarters in Yaoundé, its training centre in Yaoundé, and the airports of Bafoussam-Bamougoum, Ngaoundéré, and Maroua-Salak.
Conduct of the exercise at the control tower, at the Ngaoundéré Airport Command.
Far from being a mere formality, this process embodies the CCAA's deep and proactive commitment to operational excellence. The SGS audit team, mandated for this exercise, scrutinised all operations. At the CCAA headquarters, it examined the supervision of civil aviation safety and security, as well as security and facilitation operations. At the CCAA Training School, the team thoroughly checked the procedures for conducting training and English language proficiency tests. Finally, it evaluated the processes for providing air navigation and airport security services at regional airport commands.

During their interactions with staff in the field, the auditors pursued several key objectives to refine preparations for the CCAA's recertification. They were able to:
• Verify the QMS's compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.
• Assess its ability to meet legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
• Measure the effectiveness of internal processes concerning quality objectives.
• Identify potential malfunctions and opportunities for optimisation well in advance of the official assessment.

The results were presented to CCAA managers on July 2, 2025, during a videoconference meeting. The audit team noted many positive points, including rigorous and well-established documentation, the use of innovative tools for risk management, purchasing, and maintenance, and solid operational control across all sites.

However, as with any improvement exercise, this audit also revealed areas for improvement. Adjustments were proposed in this regard.

This “trial run” was a success, enabling the CCAA to correct shortcomings without waiting for the certification audit, to strengthen internal mobilization around quality issues, to ensure perfect consistency between its strategic objectives and regulatory requirements, and to better integrate the crucial dimensions of safety, security, environment, and quality into its daily practices.

As a reminder, this mock audit is the third of seven major events planned before the certification renewal audit in 2025. The next phases will include the implementation of corrective actions and the organisation of process and management reviews, before the official certification audits scheduled for the end of the year. The CCAA continues to work tirelessly to ensure an ever safer and more efficient airspace.
