Annual Aviation Safety Report 2024 of the CCAA
The Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) has just released its 2024 Annual Safety Report. As one of the tools established by the CCAA to promote safety, this document reveals that 2024 was a pivotal year in which increased operational activity was accompanied by proactive risk management. From strengthening the culture of reporting to the emergence of new technical challenges, the report analyzes the major trends shaping Cameroon’s skies today.

In 2024, 437 safety events were reported to the CCAA (including both mandatory and voluntary reports), corresponding to 371 occurrences. While these figures are on the higher end compared to the past five years, they mainly reflect a notable improvement in the reporting culture, particularly among aerodrome and aircraft operators.
The risk landscape also evolved significantly during the period. Bird strikes remain a major concern, with a marked increase in incidents at Douala airport compared to historical averages.
The report also highlights emerging challenges, such as the rise in unstabilized approaches often linked to meteorological phenomena like wind shear, and a worrying increase in radio interference caused by non-compliant local FM stations.
In response, clear perspectives have been outlined to strengthen aviation safety in 2025 and beyond. The focus is on technological modernization, including the deployment of wind shear detection equipment, enhanced traffic visualization tools, and intensified measures against bird hazards.
The 2025 Annual Safety Report, to be published in the coming weeks, will provide updates on the trends observed in 2024 and detail the actions taken to mitigate identified safety risks.
