The Minister of External Relations, H.E. Lejeune MBELLA MBELLA, officially took possession of the new premises provided by the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) on Wednesday, February 18, 2025. Located within the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) building at Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport, this initiative is part of a sustained effort to modernize consular services and enhance the reception of foreign dignitaries across Cameroon’s airport platforms.

The solemn ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest MASSENA NGALLE BIBEHE; the Director General of the CCAA, Mrs. Paule AVOMO ASSOUMOU KOKI; and numerous stakeholders from the Yaoundé-Nsimalen airport community.

This event marks the culmination of a collaborative process initiated in 2021 between MINREX and the CCAA to establish a dedicated functional space for diplomatic activities within the CDOU. In line with the standards of major international airports, this redesigned space features high-standing lounges for the reception of high-ranking officials and dignitaries in transit or on official visit. The facility includes a foyer, two offices, two reception lounges, a kitchenette, and restrooms, ensuring optimal conditions upon arrival in Cameroon.

The objective of this initiative is twofold: to strengthen Cameroon’s diplomatic reach and to guarantee an impeccable reception for special envoys, heads of diplomatic missions, ministers, and representatives of international organizations.

Furthermore, this enhancement serves as a testament to Cameroon’s commitment to its international obligations regarding diplomatic privileges and immunities, in accordance with the Vienna Conventions. Beyond diplomatic prestige, these facilities offer concrete operational advantages for all stakeholders at the Nsimalen airport platform.

These measures act as a catalyst for improved hospitality and a refined national brand. Key to this strategy is capitalizing on MINREX’s expertise in managing diplomatic privileges and immunities, while ensuring seamless coordination between protocol and airport services. Collectively, these actions safeguard a superior standard of reception and project an image of excellence for Cameroon on the global stage.

The Minister of External Relations took this opportunity to highlight the effective modernization of consular services, notably the implementation of the eVisa system at the Douala and Yaoundé airports, with plans to expand it to other airport hubs in the near future.
