The Minister of Transport Mr. Jean Ernest Massena NGALLE BIBEHE revealed it recently during the New Year Wishes Presentation Ceremony at which trusteeship structures and other partners of the Ministry of Transport took part.

Beautiful sunny day on January 25, 2019 during the exchange of New Year wishes at the yard of the Ministry of Transport between the Minister of Transport, the Minister Delegate and their guests.

It was an opportunity for the Secretary General to take stock of major actions implemented in the air, marine, rail, road, meteorological and governance sub-sectors in 2018.

In 2018, the continuation of the plan to modernize the different airports namely: Yaoundé-Nsimalen, Douala, Garoua, Ngaoundere, Bertoua, and Bamenda, by the CCAA was in effect. At the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport, an access control station was built at the entrance of the airport, the security system was modernized with the setting up of airport security officers and the introduction of a new video surveillance system.

At the Douala International Airport, there was the installation of photovoltaic solar panels equipped with a capacity of 1.2 MW; and at Bafoussam-Bamougoum airport, air navigation safety was strengthened with the construction of a perimeter road, a security fence, the equipment of the control tower and the renovation of the passenger terminal.

On another note, our country reached 68.85% in terms of oversight of the national civil aviation security system and an ICAO security compliance rate of 70.96% as a result of the audit conducted by experts from ICAO in April 2018.

Furthermore, the CCAA’s training center in Douala was certified as an ICAO Regional Training Center for Civil Aviation Security in 2018.

According to the Minister of Transport, we will witness the continued operationalization of the airport security units at the Douala, Garoua, and Maroua-Salak airports in 2019.

The sector’s economic plan has in view the continued modernization of air transport agreements concluded by Cameroon, to increase passenger’s air traffic on internal flights, and to follow through with the implementation of conclusions of the forum on "quality air transport"- a privileged forum of exchange with partners.

Priority will also be given to the rehabilitation of airports with a focus on electrical energy and luminescent markings, for safe operation by Camair-co as part of the improvement of domestic service.

It should be noted that honors were awarded during this colorful ceremony to staff of the Ministry of Transport. The Board Chair of the CCAA, Mr. Maximim Paul NKOUE NKONGO, received the medal of officer of the order of valour from the hands of the Minister of Transport.
