Following its application at the Yaounde international airport, security measures will soon be implemented by the Airport Security Unit (ASU) at the Douala International Airport.

The measure comes as part of the implementation of the provisions of Decree No. 2018/006/ of 08 January 2018, approving and making enforceable the National Civil Aviation Security Program (NCASP) of Cameroon.

Indeed, in accordance with the provisions of the said NCASP, the responsibility for the implementation of physical security measures on airport platforms rests with the CCAA's Airport Security Units (ASU) made up of airport security officers and agents (AOS). And according to the same NCASP, the competent services of the state (Customs, Gendarmerie, and Police) remain responsible for risk assessment through operational information, background checks, arrests and the uncovering of security offences.

For this purpose, from 08 July 2019, the implementation of security measures at Douala International Airport, which until now had been carried out by the Police and Customs, will be the task of the CCAA's Airport Security Units, and particularly in relation to;

-screening passengers and their carry-on baggage, persons and belongings transported, vehicles, and hold baggage and cargo

-static and active monitoring of vulnerable areas and points,

-the application of security measures on the city side, mainly the road access checkpoint at the ETO'O junction, at the entrances of terminals and at passenger terminal.

Moreover, additional searches carried out by airline companies will now be conducted at the one-stop checkpoint for the screening of passengers and their carry-on baggage located at the entrance of the boarding room.

It should be noted that the new batch of Airport Security Officers (ASO) was deployed to the Yaounde International Airport since November 21, 2017.
