The 42nd Session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) opened on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in Montreal. During the second plenary meeting, delegates elected the Bureau responsible for conducting the proceedings on the major challenges facing international civil aviation.

Cameroon has once again been honoured with the election of Mrs. Paule Assoumou Koki, Director General of the CCAA, to the position of First Vice-President of this Session. She will assist Mr. Nayef bin Ali Al Abri of the Sultanate of Oman, who was elected President of the proceedings.
Gathering 193 Member States every three years, the ICAO Assembly constitutes the supreme body of the Organization. Mrs. Assoumou Koki’s accession to the presidium of this Session results from a long-standing commitment to the development of civil aviation at the regional and international levels.
At the ICAO level, she served as 2nd Vice-President of the Technical Commission for the 39th Session (2016), 1st Vice-President of the Administrative Commission for the 40th Session (2019), and 1st Vice-President of the 3rd ICAO Conference on Aviation Alternative Fuels (2023). In 2024, she chaired the 14th Air Navigation Conference, a major preparatory meeting that examined technical subjects to be addressed by the Assembly.

At the regional level, since November 2023, Mrs. Assoumou Koki has been the Chairperson of APIRG (Africa-Indian Ocean Planning and Implementation Regional Group) and Vice-President of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC).
Beyond her daily duties focused on the safe, secure, and sustainable development of civil aviation in Cameroon, this new responsibility reflects a permanent commitment to fostering cooperation to better prepare civil aviation in meeting the challenges in perpetual evolution.
