Aeronautical operations

Air traffic control

Air traffic control services in Cameroon are provided by two (02) organisations:

  • The Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA)/ operating at the international airports of Yaounde-Nsimalen, Douala, and Garoua.
  • The Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, through its Department of Operation and Airport Command (DECA), deployed at secondary airports:
    • Maroua-Salak International Airport
    • Bafoussam-Bamougoum Airport
    • Bamenda Airport
    • Bertoua Airport
    • Ngaoundere Airport


Order No. 0000711/MINT of 08 June 2006 establishes the regulatory framework for the organisation of air traffic services in Cameroon.

This service is provided by qualified air traffic controllers who apply separations (via radar and/or procedures) between aircraft and issue control clearances, depending on traffic and environmental conditions.

Alert service
One of the tasks of the aforementioned organisations, in their capacity as air traffic service providers, is to issue an ALERT in the event of serious incidents or aircraft accidents, in close coordination with the SAR service. The Regional Control Centres (RCCs) in Douala and N’Djamena are primarily responsible for issuing the alert.
